In Washington, drivers have a duty to avoid colliding with a vehicle in front of them by maintaining a safe distance and stopping when possible. Drivers are expected to anticipate that the car in front of them may suddenly stop unless it is in area where stopping would be unexpected. Hit and run accidents occur when the other driver flees the scene of an accident. Pedestrians are protected by the drivers insurance policy.
